Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first gained international recognition at the celebrated “Paris Tasting” of 1976 when he crafted what was called at the time "the greatest white wine in the world".  The results stunned the international wine establishment and immediately earned Mike a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world and helped put the Napa Valley on the world wine map.

After his victory in Paris, Mike partnered with Austin Hills and his sister, Mary Lee, and on Independence Day 1977, they gave birth to Grgich Hills Cellars.  They began producing what immediately became our signature wine: the exquisite, richly complex Chardonnays that win awards and delight wine lovers across America and throughout the world.

Mike, along with others, continued to work tirelessly to elevate the quality of the wines coming from and the perception of the Napa Valley to help make it the unique world class wine region it is today.

Today, his daughter Violet Grgich is president of Grgich Hills Estate, his nephew is our head winemaker, and the partnership remains strong.

Grgich Hills is an Estate producer which means we own all five of our Certified Regenerative Organic vineyards and make a wide variety of premium red and white wines.
